I developed my passionate obsession for forging & shaping metal at the age of 13. Following the directions in a book, I began by making knives from saw blades, then advanced to Damascus steel. Staying in the world of metals, I worked as a machinist, tool & die maker in my 20’s. In 1980, I decided to pursue my artistic bent and make blacksmithing my full-time profession. Specializing in functional and decorative ironwork, I exhibited in juried craft shows in Baton Rouge, became a multi-time award winning artist, and demonstrated at the World’s Fair in New Orleans. In the summer of 1990, seeking solace from the summer heat, I travelled north to the cool, lush Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. I settled in Boone, where I began designing, prototyping and tool engineer for Charleston Forge Furniture Company.
In 1996, my wife Bonnie (a Graphic Illustrator) and I moved to the quaint, historic town of Todd, NC, where I hand-built my blacksmith studio. It sits nestled on a lush bank at the headwaters of Three Top Creek, which feeds into the ancient and protected New River. With the canopy of shade trees and the cool rushing stream, my shop never exceeds 76 degrees, even in July, and is perfect for forging. Now a full-time artist, I actively exhibit my metal work at regional Juried Fine Arts, Crafts and Garden Shows, and in Art Galleries.
